2020 The End Of Television

2015/01/02 | By Stéphanie Maude Savard | Filed in: Television.

I have written a book! Well, almost.

In the fall of 2013, I set out to write a book about the future of television and how it would evolve in the next few years. I wrote and formatted most of it. However, english is not my native language and before publishing it, I wanted a professional to make a correction pass. The process dragged on, I tried to do some more work to it in April 2014, but finally, I got way too busy and never had the time to finish the process.

In the meantime, some of the scenario that I had predicted became to happen (like the CBS move to offer package online). So, at this point, I could go back and re-write it to be more current but that would means even more delays before publications.

So, I decided to publish it in PDF format for free on this blog instead. Yes, it is not in the final form that I had hope but I believe (modestly) this is a worthwhile read and an interesting contribution to out industry.

Please, download it  and let me know what you think!

Happy New Year to you and yours and I hope that 2015 will be a great one!

Cheers!

  1. This is the truth nobody wants to see. A very well researched background on whats happening right now. Could be some more numbers of increasing bandwith and and decreasing needs according to more efficient codecs. I belive we are right now at the tipping point. Only thing missing are some user friendly interfaces, more open than apple-tv and Chromecast, before the floodgates will open.

  2. Congratulations for the work! The journal of “Media and Communication” has recently published an open access issue on “(Not Yet) the End of Television” that might be helpful and fruitful for this debate: https://goo.gl/UQi754
